I AM SO PROUD OF THIS GUYS FUCK.
egeeghgahegah

This is my first real attempt at semi-realism ever and I think it turned out so well. ;-; Like omg I am so happy with this right now LOL. Like man I just remembered that I was going to test out a little bit of texturing on the skin but I don't even care lmao.
Download for full size + see a few little details maybe.

Anyways though yeah this is my Night Elf Warrior on WoW, Lyvanne LOL. I usually forget about her, but I was reminded of her this weekend and somehow that spawned this picture.
I am REQUESTING CRITIQUES on this, so if you have any helpful advice, comment/critique it please! I really want to practice more semi-realism (because it's the direction I actually want to go with my art ahaha) so if you have anything to say, it'll be greatly appreciated!
I tried to fix some of the common things I know I do in my normal art, but there are definitely a few kinda awkward things, but oh well. It is my first try, after all ahaha.
Also, I used no references at all except this Model Viewer screenshot of the actual character herself, which is here: [link] and other than that, I just used a couple tips told to me by =VEEDUBBZ a while ago. (which were things like how to get started and that's pretty much it LOL) SO I KIND OF WINGED IT GUYS so seriously any comments at all would help a lot. ;u; I want to improve! Even if it's like "yo her ear looks kinda dumb you should do it better next time."

I hope you guys like this as much as I do! ;u;

Wow! I'm jealous of how fast you were able to switch from your style to a semi-realistic, line-less painting. I've been trying for awhile, but I can't quite get it...Anyway, before I get into specifics, I'll really be looking forward to see what you do with more human characters like Seir or Josh and Damien, because your technique here is pretty interesting.

Love:
-Skin shading. You can really tell that your light source is above her and the shadows are consistent with that. I love the depth of tones in her neck...They give it an awesome shape and I can't stop looking at it KD Your highlights are consistently strong too.

-Loose hairs. I think that adds so much to the "realistic" factor and gives her character, too. They look soft and in all the right places.

-Nose/eyes. Fantastic shape and shading on the nose. I would say it's a little long for a person, but she's not really human - that's part of the reason I'd like to see some other characters from you X3 The "semi" part of the realism comes through in her eyes. I adore her eyelashes, though they are a bit thick - and I especially love that glow. For next time, the glow in her eyes may produce some more light on her face of a similar tone. Also, depending on the depth of realism you want to obtain, some tear ducts in her eyes, even teeny ones with a hint of color, would add.

-Overall character design. I love that color scheme and her skin and just 8D Ah. The background color blends well, too. Between her fabulous eyebrows and neat facial markings, you have the makings of a great character.

Some things to work on:

These are really just nit-picking things about the overall piece, less about semi-realism...The only thing I would have you consider about her is her hairline. Her head is really long and her hairline is really high. I don't know how the character is supposed to look, but depending on what you do with other characters, you may work with that some. Her neck is long too, but I kind of like it either way.

This was meant to be a headshot, but her hair extends past her neck and that breaks the illusion a bit for me. Cleaning up the edges around her neck may help with that - or for next time, you can always extend to the edge of your canvas. Or just shrink your canvas X'3 Centering her may also help with the "just a headshot" illusion, but since she is off-center, it really feels like she should touch the edge of the image.

I...Think that's all! Overall an awesome character and a fantastic transitional piece to semi-realism.

I completely agree with the critique below, I'm probably not skilled enough to give you fair critique about this but it really is a fantastic attempt to create semi-realism. A few things I like the most would have to be the eyes, there is a beautiful glow and shape to them. The way the eyelashes cover her eyes and flick out is a real favourite for me. The hair is also really well dome. Hair is something I struggle with the most so this is pretty cool for me to see. Keep doing what you're doing. Wing wing! :D

Thank you so much! Your comment really does mean a lot ahah <3
The eyes were one of the things I was a bit worried about and had some difficulty with, so I'm glad to hear that they're a favorite of yours. ;u;

You know, you actually inspired me to start a project similar. Was just closing it for this evening and checking my dA messages before I get into bed. So yeah, really keep up the amazing work because I -really- love this picture of Lyvanne! :) (Also trying to work on something similar for the eyes, I'll be sure to keep you posted when I'm done! :)) <3

Oh wow that's awesome to hear! I hope your picture comes along nicely! ;u; <333
I plan on doing a bit of a "practice project" soon with semi-realism, so there will definitely be more drawings in the future! <3
Thanks for the support!
